U Visa for Victims of Crime

Seeking safety, stability, and a lawful path forward in the United States after being harmed by crime?

Duan Law provides high-level U visa representation for victims of qualifying criminal activity whose cases are supported by real facts, meaningful harm, and strong legal potential.

A U visa case is not simply about showing that something bad happened. It requires careful legal analysis, strategic documentation, and a clear presentation of how the crime affected you, how you qualify under the law, and how your case should be supported through evidence and law-enforcement certification.

That is where we excel. We take the time to understand your experience, assess whether your case meets the legal framework for U nonimmigrant status, and build a strategy tailored to your facts, your risks, and your long-term immigration goals.

Every U visa case is different. The criminal history, the available evidence, the law-enforcement relationship, the personal harm suffered, and the client’s broader immigration background all matter. Our attorney personally develops your legal strategy, reviews your supporting evidence, and guides your case with precision at every stage.

Scroll down to learn how Duan Law’s high-end U visa services can help protect your rights, strengthen your case, and support your future in the United States.

About Attorney Duan

Why Choose to Apply for a U Visa?

For many victims of crime, a U visa is more than an immigration option. It can be a path toward stability, dignity, and lawful protection.

  • If you were the victim of certain qualifying criminal activity in the United States, or of conduct that violated U.S. law, and you suffered substantial mental or physical abuse, U visa protection may be available.
  • A U visa can offer lawful status, work authorization in the appropriate stage of the process, and, for eligible applicants, a later path toward permanent residence.
  • It can also allow certain qualifying family members to benefit through the case where the law permits.

People may pursue a U visa in situations involving:

  • Domestic violence
  • Sexual assault or abusive sexual contact
  • Felonious assault
  • Stalking
  • Kidnapping
  • Blackmail
  • Extortion
  • Witness tampering
  • Trafficking-related or other qualifying criminal conduct
  • Similar criminal activity recognized under the statute and regulations

Not every victim qualifies. A strong U visa case usually requires more than hardship alone. It requires legal eligibility, substantial abuse, credible supporting evidence, and a properly completed law-enforcement certification.

Your experience matters. The law may offer protection when the facts are real, the harm is serious, and the case is presented with clarity and discipline.

What Is a U Visa?

A U visa, also called U nonimmigrant status, is a form of humanitarian immigration protection for victims of certain qualifying crimes.

To qualify, a person generally must show that:

  • They were the victim of qualifying criminal activity
  • The criminal activity occurred in the United States or violated U.S. law
  • They suffered substantial physical or mental abuse as a result
  • They possess information concerning the criminal activity
  • They have been, are being, or are likely to be helpful to law enforcement, prosecutors, judges, or other qualifying authorities
  • They meet all filing and admissibility requirements, including any waiver strategy where needed

A U visa case commonly includes:

  • Form I-918
  • Form I-918 Supplement B certification from a qualifying certifying agency or official
  • Detailed personal evidence and supporting documentation
  • Legal analysis of admissibility issues, if any
  • Strategic preparation for derivative family filings where appropriate

U visa law is highly technical. Even strong facts can be undermined by weak organization, poor documentary development, or failure to address legal issues early. In addition, there is a statutory annual cap of 10,000 principal U visas each fiscal year, which makes careful case preparation especially important.

USCIS also uses processes such as bona fide determinations and waiting-list procedures in appropriate cases, and U nonimmigrant status may later support green-card eligibility for applicants who meet the additional statutory requirements.

Why Clients Choose Duan Law?
